On Tuesday, July 15, from 6 to 8 a.m., CCS will be renewing the SSL certificate for the wireless authentication servers. As a result of this change, when users access campus WiFi at any U of G campus after July 15, including main campus, Ridgetown campus, and the University of Guelph-Humber, there will be some action required for them to connect to their appropriate campus network (uog-wifi-secure and eduroam).
We will be sending a mass email that includes the user instructions below.
What will happen when users access campus WiFi after July 15:
Most users will be prompted: Upon first attempt to connect, most devices will see a one-time-only certificate warning. Users will simply need to accept the new certificate when prompted to do so and should then be able to connect.
For users who are not prompted: Certain devices may not prompt users to accept the new certificate. These users will need to manually reconfigure their devices to join, based on their regular WiFi network.
Ideally users do not wait to be prompted and follow the instructions below prior to July 15. This can be done from home and will apply the new certificate. It should provide a seamless connection upon return to campus and will avoid security risks when they go to accept the certificate. If they do wait and accept the certificate after July 15, please encourage your users to verifying the certificate against the information on this CCS network requirements page: https://uoguelphca.sharepoint.com/sites/ccs/SitePages/internet-phones/wireless-internet/wireless-requirements.aspx?
How to manually configure user devices to join:
The majority of Guelph campus users who use uog-wifi-secure should access the JoinNow tool prior to July 15 by following the instructions at https://www.uoguelph.ca/ccs/securewireless
Users at University of Guelph-Humber and others who use Eduroam should use the Eduroam-CAT tool prior to July 15 by following the instructions at https://cat.eduroam.org/
As we do not know which devices will be prompted and which will not, we highly recommend users reconfigure their devices before July 15 using the links provided above.
