On July 26th, from 12 am to 4 am, CCS will be making change to the campus DNS service infrastructure. This change is part of our continuing effort to migrate to private IP addresses and consolidate our remaining public IP address space.
What is being changed during this maintenance window?
• The DNS server settings for IP addresses 131.104.136.11 (asterix.net.uoguelph.ca) will be changed to 131.104.88.11. • The DHCP configuration will be modified with new IP addresses. • Systems using 131.104.136.11 as DNS server will have DNS service interruption.
Note: The DNS servers at 131.104.20.10 (obelix.net.uoguelph.ca) and 131.104.88.10 (willow.net.uoguelph.ca) will remain unchanged.
What action is required?
Most users will not be affected. No action is required if your systems use DHCP (automatically assigned IP addresses and DNS servers). The Network Infrastructure team will update DHCP configurations to reflect these changes automatically.
Action is required only for systems with manually configured static IP addresses. This typically includes: • Servers (physical and virtual) • Specialized workstations • Network equipment • Other systems with static network configurations. If you manage systems with static IP addresses, you will need to update the DNS server settings from 131.104.136.11 to 131.104.88.10 before July 26th.
